Flash

Flash memory is an electronic non-volatile computer memory storage medium that can be electrically erased and reprogrammed. The two main types of flash memory, NOR flash and NAND flash, are named for the NOR and NAND logic gates. Both use the same cell design, consisting of floating gate MOSFETs. Flash is widely used in memory cards and USB drives because of its ability to be rapidly rewritten. It is well-suited for file transfers between mobile phones, laptops, gaming consoles, and handheld gaming devices. Compared to traditional hard drives, flash memory offers superior resistance to shocks and does not result in data loss due to severe vibrations. When used in memory cards, flash memory is exceptionally robust and can withstand high pressure and extreme temperatures. Additionally, flash memory falls under the category of "non-volatile solid-state storage," where non-volatile means it does not require power consumption when storing files. These advantages make flash memory highly suitable for electronic devices that require on-the-fly data storage, making it particularly well-suited for compact, portable electronic devices. View less
